So really, he meant this.

“Ah. Dee dee. Mommy.”

“You want a wee wee?”

“Ohw. Ah. Dee dee. Mommy.”

“What do you want Noah?”

“Ah. Dee dee. Mommy.”

I look down while I’m changing Isaac’s nappy and realise he wants to get past – he’s saying “excuse me, mommy.”

*****

“Ah. Go. Gahggak. Oh. Doodat.”

“Noah please leave Isaac alone, he’s fine.”

“Ah. Go. GAHGGAK. OH. DOODAT.”

“Noah what’s the matter?”

“AH! GO! GAHGAK. OH. DOODAT!”

I look over to see Noah telling Isaac to stop messing with wire cables.

*****

“Ah. Dit-dit. Oot.”

“…”

“Ah. Dit-dit. Oot.”

“What Noah?”

“Ah. Dit-dit. Oot.”

He points at the potty to show me he’s done a wee and I should tip it out.

*****

“Mommy, ah. Hyind.”

“..er..”

“Mommy. Ah. Hyind. Hyinge.”

“Behind?”

“Ah. Mommy. Ah hyinge.”

“Orange?”

“Yeah. Ah hyinge.”

He’s pointing to a pack of wipes now with an orange on the front.

*****

“Ah. Bibbin. Ah. Woof woof! Ah gog. Ah dat.”

“Pippin? A dog? He’s not a cat, is he?”

“Oh, ah Bibbin, ah gog.”

“Yes Pippin is a dog, that’s right.”

“Ah. Gog.”

I listen to hear the “Come Outside” music on CBeebies.

“Mommy, ah chun chun ah howp, ah bibbin. Woahwah, howp, ah gykit, woah Mommy.”

You tell me.

We have another speech therapy appointment in a week – oh goodies! After the last time, I’ll be intrigued to see what help we get this time.

I know it can be frustrating but he really has come a LONG way!

    • mochabeaniemummy says:

I agree! He HAS come on leaps and bounds :) He still gets pretty wound up at times, but we just want to make sure he can keep up when he starts school :D
      xx

We're at exactly the same stage! It can be frustrating but for us it's so amazing to have him even try and communicate using words instead of grunts or gestures. Well done to him! Hope the next ST appointment goes well, will be thinking of you! We have one next Tuesday, no idea what to expect this time!

    • mochabeaniemummy says:

YES!! The sophistication in his skills has come on leaps and bounds; nursery still agree there's something not quite right with his speech, but they're working him like crazy to make sure he keeps up. Let me know how you get on with your appt :D
      xx

Awww what great communication he's doing!! I'm jealous, Max is still at the putting my hands on what he wants stage, though he is now starting to hum along to twinkle twinkle, and he does *all* the actions now too! Yaaay! :D

    • mochabeaniemummy says:

Yeay that's great progress! Isaac does a lot of the "hand guiding" thing, so I can understand how frustrating that can be, but (like everyone else keeps telling me!) the development will come. BRILLIANT that he does humming and actions though, great start :D

Awww he's doing so well! :) Of course it helps that he's just utterly adorable! hehe!
Hope you're next speech therapy goes well, try to avoid punching her :P

  5. Matt's godson had a similar problem, he knew what the words were but the sounds were so loose in his mouth we all struggled. Speech therapy was brilliant. He has improved so much. I hope the next session goes well. x

    • mochabeaniemummy says:

Thank you so much! I'm hoping sessions will help immensely; he's come on leaps and bounds in terms of vocab, but we just need so much help in assisting him forming his words. Fingers crossed all goes well :D
      xx

  6. Him Up North says:

We have friends whose twin boys formed their own language in infancy. This is apparently common in twins. They struggled somewhat with our health authority to get the therapy they wanted. I hope yours is a better experience.
As for that little chap, OMG, what a star. 500% cute.

Thanks so much! :D I hope so too; it's been a slow start (for us) but I think I've done enough banging on the door to get a bit of help, you know? I've heard about made-up stuff with twins; I wouldn't mind so much if I could just understand him a little more :-/

  7. Noah is lovely, a real sweetie. My son is around the same age I think (rising three) and we also have speech issues here. He understands everything, has a great vocab and wants to speak but he unfortunately has a persistent stutter so everything takes a very long time. It's not so bad at home, but at pre-school there are other children who speak for him before he manages to get the words out. We've had an initial ST assessment and have the next stage in a fortnight. I shuddered when I read how you were treated by the STs last time. I hope the next appointment is more productive x

  8. Sooooo familiar. My son sounds exactly like this and he's only just started talking as much as he does in past 3-4 months (he's 3 and 3 months). 12 months after referral and we've had 2 blocks of speech therapy and only just started assessment in the Social and Communication clinic. He won't get more speech therapy until January but hopefully we're on an sharply improving curve now.
